The Nebraska Director of Agriculture is a state executive position in the Nebraska state government.

The director oversees the Department of Agriculture, which is tasked with promotion and development of state agriculture as well as regulation and licensing.

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Greg Ibach. He was appointed by Gov. Dave Heineman in 2005.

The Nebraska Director of Agriculture is appointed by the Nebraska Governor, with the consent of a majority of the Legislature.


As established by Article IV, Section 1 of the Nebraska Constitution, in the event of a vacancy, the governor fills the office by appointment.


The director oversees the Department of Agriculture, whose stated mission is "to regulate industries, as prescribed by statute, and to encourage and promote the interests of agriculture through advocacy and education."[1]
