Nevada Question 2, also known as An initiative relating to the definition of marriage, was on the November 7, 2002 election ballot in Nevada. It passed, with 66.9% of voters in favor.

This measure is a citizen-initiated constitutional amendment.

Text of the proposal

The language that appeared on the ballot:

(NOTE - First approved by the voters in 2000. Nevada requires constitutional initiatives to be approved at two successive general elections.)

Shall the Nevada Constitution be amended to provide that: "Only a marriage between a male and female person shall be recognized and given effect in this state?"

EXPLANATION

The proposed amendment, if passed, would create a new section to Article 1 of the Nevada Constitution providing that, "Only a marriage between a male and female person shall be recognized and given effect in this state."
