The Editing People's Initiative to Stop the Taking of Our Land, also known as PISTOL, is a ballot measure that was put on the Nevada ballot in November of 2006.

Impact of PISTOL on the State of Nevada

It would amend the State Constitution regarding eminent domain actions to define property rights as a fundamental constitutional right, and that the transfer of land from one private party to another is not public use. It would require that before government could occupy a property it must provide appraisals and prove the taking is for public use. Government actions causing economic loss to property would require the payment of just compensation and property taken but not used within five years for the purpose for which it was taken must be returned to the owner.
