Welcome to New Jersey on Ballotpedia!

Bordering New York, Pennsylvannia, Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean, the state of New Jersey’s Constitution of 1947 established the government of New Jersey. It comprises three branches: the executive, headed by the Governor of New Jersey; the legislative (consisting of the bicameral New Jersey Legislature, consisting of the General Assembly and Senate); and judicial, headed by the New Jersey Supreme Court. Currently, New Jersey has two Democratic members of the U.S. Senate, a total of 12 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 80 members of the New Jersey General Assembly and 40 members of the New Jersey State Senate. As of September 2013, New Hampshire is one of 13 states that is under divided government and does not have state government trifecta.
