The Department of Agriculture is responsible for supporting production agriculture as well as managing school food programs, distributing surplus federal food, conserving soil and water resources, protecting farmland, and expanding export markets.[1]
Current officeholder
The current officeholder is Douglas Fisher. He was appointed by Gov. Jon Corzine in 2009.
Appointments
The Secretary of Agriculture is nominated by the New Jersey Board of Agriculture and approved by the Governor.
Compensation
In 2010, the New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture was paid an estimated $141,000 according to the Council of State Governments.[2]
