Former judge convicted of voter fraud in New Mexico

Horacio Favela

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico: Horacio Favela, once a Sunland Park municipal court judge, was found guilty in August 2009 of three counts of election fraud.[1]

The episodes of fraud related to Favela's voting behavior during the 2004 elections. Evidence presented during a week-long jury trial indicated that Favela voted in both El Paso, Texas, and Dona Ana, New Mexico in November 2004 election.

Favela was a candidate for the Dona Ana judgeship at the same time that he was living in El Paso, Texas.

He was convicted for false voting, making a false statement on his candidate declaration and falsifying documents in a municipal election.

Favela faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine on each count.[2]
