The North Carolina General Assembly Research Division is a non-partisan legislative service agency providing general research needs for the North Carolina General Assembly.


The Research Division is led by an Executive Director who oversees the day to day operations of the agency[1]. The Executive Director oversees a staff of 48[2].

Services offered

Bill drafting

The Research Division handles bill drafting requests for legislators. Legal working in the Research Division work on all bill draft requests[3].

Committee staffing

All research and legal staff for all standing committees in the North Carolina General Assembly are provided by the Research Division[4].

Legislative Library

A legislative library is provided by the Research Division. The library houses publications, General Assembly records, and a web-based resource service to help provide legislative information for General Assembly members and the public[5].
