North Dakota Rules for Appointing Supreme Court Justices, Measure 2 (1990)
North Dakota Measure 2 (General) (1990) provides that if the Governor appoints a Supreme Court justice or district court judge less than one year before a general election, the appointment continues until the following general election. This ballot measure was referred to the ballot by the North Dakota State Legislature. It failed with 45% of voters in favor.
Text of measure
This measure amends section 13 of article VI of the constitution of North Dakota. An appointment to fill a vacancy in the office of Supreme Court justice or district court occurring less than one year before the next general election would continue until the following general election.
