Candidates wishing to run were required to file by the signature filing deadline of December 7, 2011. The primary elections were held on March 6, 2012.
The twelfth is in the middle of Ohio, and includes parts of Columbus and northern suburbs. Heading into the election the incumbent is Patrick J. Tiberi (R) who has served since 2001.

Race background
The Washington Post listed the House of Representatives elections in Ohio in 2012 as one of the states that could determine whether Democrats retake the House or Republicans will hold its majority in 2013.[2] Ohio tied with Pennsylvania for 9th on the list.[2]

2010
On November 2, 2010, Tiberi won re-election to the United States House of Representatives. He defeated Paula Brooks and Travis M. Irvine in the general election.[3]
