Ohio is one of 21 states with a mixed primary system. Only affiliated voters can vote for candidates in the primary election; however, voters do not choose their affiliation until election day, when they request a party's ballot.[1]

Heading into the election the incumbent is Joyce Beatty (D), who was first elected in 2012.

Ohio's 3rd Congressional District is located in the central portion of the state and includes portions of Franklin county.[2]
