The Ohio gubernatorial election will take place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent John Kasich (R) is running for re-election.[1] The winner of the election will serve a 4-year term in office.

Ohio is one of 21 states with a mixed primary system. Only affiliated voters can vote for candidates in the primary election; however, voters do not choose their affiliation until election day, when they request a party's ballot.[2]

Race background

Kasich has stated his intention to seek a second term as governor in 2014.[17]

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan had been considered a strong potential Democratic candidate for the 2014 Ohio gubernatorial election, but ultimately opted against entering the race in March of 2013. He decided that challenging incumbent Gov. John Kasich (R) was not worth forfeiting his seat in the U.S. House, particularly in light of his reappointment to the influential Appropriations Committee in the 113th Congress. [18] [19][20]
