The 3rd congressional district of Oklahoma will hold an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 6, 2012.

Primary: Oklahoma has a closed primary system, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.

Voter registration: Voters had to register to vote in the primary June 1. For the August 28 runoff, the voter registration deadline was August 3. For the general election, the voter registration deadline is October 12.[1]

Incumbent: Heading into the election the incumbent is Frank D. Lucas, who has served since 1994.

This will be the first election using new district maps based on 2010 Census data. Oklahoma's 3rd congressional district is located in the western and a northwestern portion of the state, and includes the panhandle of Oklahoma. Osage, Pawnee, Creek, Lincoln, Payne, Logan, Kay, Noble, Grant, Garfield, Kingfisher, Canadian, Caddo, Kiowa, Jackson, Harmon, Greer, Beckham, Roger Mills, Ellis, Wooward, Major , Alfalfa, Woods, Harper, Beaver, Texas, and Cimarron counties are included in the district.[2]

This is the 3rd congressional district prior to the 2010 redistricting.

2010

On November 2, 2010, Lucas won re-election to the United States House of Representatives. He defeated Frankie Robbins in the general election.[11]
