Two Palmyra Township Fire Levy Measures were on the August 7, 2012 ballot in the township of Palmyra, which is in Lenawee County.

Both measures were approved

The first measure sought to increase the current fire operations levy by a rate of $1 per $1,000 of assessed value for a period of two years in order to further pay for fire department operational costs in the township.

The second measure sought to renew the current fire operations levy which is set at a rate of $1 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for fire department operational costs in the township.[1]

Text of measure

The question on the ballot:

Proposal 1: Shall the 15 mill tax limitation on General Ad Valorem taxes within Palmyra Township imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution be increased for said township by 1.00 mill ($1.00 per $1000 of taxable value) for the period of 2012 through 2013 inclusive for fire department operation; and shall the township levy such increase in millage upon taxable Real and Personal Property within the township for said purpose, thereby raising in the first year an estimated $76,776?

Proposal 2: Shall the previously voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section VI of the Michigan Constitution on General Ad Valorem Taxes within Palmyra Township be renewed at 1.00 mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value) for the period of 2012 through 2015 inclusive for fire department operation, maintenance, and purchase of township fire department equipment and apparatus; and shall the township levy such renewal in millage for said purpose, thereby raising in the first year an estimated $76,776?[3]
