A Palos Heights Fire District Levy Increase measure was on the April 5, 2011 ballot in the Palos Heights fire district area which is in Cook County.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 1,013 (44.18%)
  • NO 1,280 (55.82%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to increase the current property tax rate by $.19 per $100 of assessed property value in order to increase funds for the fire department and ensure services are offered and equipment can be maintained. The fire district noted that they were in need of a new fire truck, this tax increase would help to buy a modern truck for the district. Though some citizens stated their concerns about the tax increase, fire officials stressed the need for the safety of residents.[2] As with other Cook county measures on the April ballot, the estimated cost of the increase was less than the actual cost would be if the measure had been approved. The fire chief noted the discrepancy and stated that he had been quoting a higher rate than what was listed on the ballot since he first campaigned in favor of the increase.[3]
