Calder is a merchant mariner and marine engineer. He is a member of the Marine Engineer’s Beneficial Association (MEBA) and is currently employed as the First Engineer on the world’s only American-flagged cruise ship, the Pride of America operated by Norwegian Cruise Lines.
Calder is running in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Maine's 1st District. Calder is seeking the nomination on the Republican ticket. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run is March 15, 2012. The primary elections will be held on June 12, 2012.
