The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. Incumbent Paul Clemente was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Clemente won re-election in the 2012 election for Michigan House of Representatives District 14. He ran unopposed in the August 7 Democratic primary and defeated Edward Gubics (R) and Loel Robert Gnadt (L) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4]

Clemente won election to the District 14 seat in 2010. He defeated Brittany Guerriero, Frank Liberati, Rebecca Sarazin and Frank Vaslo in the August 3 Democratic primary. He defeated Patrick O'Connell (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[5][6]
