Paul Hirschbiel was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House representing the 2nd Congressional District of Virginia. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12, 2012. He was defeated by Scott Rigell on November 6, 2012.[1]


Hirschbiel co-founded a venture capital firm that went on to invest in Dell Computer. Later, he founded another venture capital firm focused on small businesses in Virginia. He and his wife, Susan, have two children.[2]


Campaign themes

According to Hirschbiel's website, his campaign themes included:

  • Education: "For our country to continue to succeed economically, it is imperative that we continue to out-innovate our global competitors."
  • Budget: "We must get our deficits under control and begin to reduce our national debt."
  • Social Security: "There are intelligent ways to reduce the long-term costs of Social Security and Medicare that do not break our promise."[3]

Hirschbiel ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Virginia's 2nd District. Hirschbiel ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and was defeated by Republican incumbent Scott Rigell in the November general election.[4] He was defeated by Scott Rigell on November 6, 2012.[5]
