He has been the owner of Pedersen Associates (insurance agency) since 1978.
Pedersen earned a B.A. in English/Journalism from the University of Wisconsin in 1975.

Pedersen ran in the 2010 election for Wisconsin State Assembly District 22. Pedersen was defeated by Democratic incumbent Sandy Pasch in the general election on November 2, 2010. Pedersen was unopposed in the Republican primary election on September 14, 2010.

Pedersen's campaign slogan is "It's time we work together." His campaign website says that Pedersen's top priority is to get "people who want to work back to work." He does not support a sales or income tax increase, and feels that the problems will be solved with new ideas and not the "old politics."
