Sarlo graduated with a B.S in Civil Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and also graduated with an M.S. in the same degree from the same institution.[2]
In addition to being a senator, Sarlo is the Chief Engineer for Bishop-Sanzari Heavy Construction. He also is the Borough Engineer for the Borough of Carlstadt and has been since 1998. Prior to his position in the state senate, Sarlo was a Councilman for the Wood-Ridge Borough Council from 1995 to 2000.[3]
