Pennsylvania has had five [[Pennsylvania Constitution|constitution]]s during its statehood: 1776, 1790, 1838, 1874, and [http://sites.state.pa.us/PA_Constitution.html 1968]. Prior to that, the province of Pennsylvania was governed for a century by a [[Frame of Government]], of which there were four versions: 1682, 1683, 1696, and 1701.

<p align="justify">''Located in the Northeastern and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, the state of Pennsylvania is bordered by Maryland, Delaware, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Lake Erie and Canada. Nicknamed both “the Keystone state” and “the Quaker state,” Pennsylvania was the second state admitted to the Union in 1787. While Harrisburg is the state’s capital, Philadelphia is the state’s most populated city. Currently, there are two members of the U.S. Senate, a total of eighteen members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 50 members of the Pennsylvania State Senate and 203 members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. As of September 2013, Pennsylvania is one of 24 Republican state government trifectas. ''</p></td></tr>

** Currently there is no initiative or referendum available in Pennsylvania. An alternative is Legislative referendum which is possible in all states ([http://iandrinstitute.org/New%20IRI%20Website%20Info/Drop%20Down%20Boxes/Requirements/Legislative%20Referendum%20States.pdf|click here for list]), is when the state legislatures, an elected official, state appointed constitutional revision commission or other government agency or department submits propositions (constitutional amendments, statutes, bond issues, etc.) to the people for their approval or rejection. Every state requires that constitutional amendments proposed by the legislature be submitted to the citizenry via legislative referendum for approval or rejection. Legislative amendments (LA) are possible in Pennsylvania, and are constitutional amendments placed on the ballot by the legislature or governmental body. This includes constitutional bond issues and amendments proposed by a constitutional revision commission.

Pennsylvania state hub.jpg

Welcome to Pennsylvania on Ballotpedia!

Located in the Northeastern and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, the state of Pennsylvania is bordered by Maryland, Delaware, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Lake Erie and Canada.
