Welcome to the Education Policy Project portal, where you will find information about K-12 education policy in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Education policy is, and has always been, a major public policy issue affecting not only students and parents, but the nation and society as a whole. Traditionally and constitutionally in the United States, education is primarily the responsibility of parents, and local and state government, which fund and oversee public schooling. The federal government has more recently sought to improve education through research, regulation and specific legislatively-mandated programs. The Education Policy Project on Policypedia will enlighten citizens about K-12 education in the United States, including on issues such as school spending, school choice, Common Core standards and many other reforms being discussed and implemented through policies. We will also cover the major stakeholders, including government agencies, education organizations, research groups and major policy institutes involved in education reform.
