Issues

Campaign themes

2012

Becker's campaign website lists the following issues:[2]

  • Assuring state government works effectively & efficiently
Excerpt: "During the last four years, we have struggled with the worst economy since the Great Depression. State government has had to cut back, eliminate wasteful progams, and learn to work more efficiently. The Senate led the way to a bipartisan balanced budget -- but there is still more work to be done to get our government on a secure financial footing."
  • Creating jobs
Excerpt: "In the end, private businesses must create sustainable, long-term jobs. It's the role of state government to put in place a tax and regulatory structure that is fair and that encourages job growth. We cannot afford to chase away vital jobs in aerospace, high-tech and other growing industries."
  • Helping to educate and train Washington State’s next generation
Excerpt: "Washington's future lies in the hands of our youth…they are the next generation of technicians, small business owners, doctors and community doers. Yet, if we fail to properly provide them the tools to be competitive in today's global marketplace, we have failed. We need to return to local control where parents, teachers and administrators are united on teaching the students."
  • Affordable health care
Excerpt: "I worked in medical administration for 20 years and this is a subject I am passionate about. People must have health care. We need to address the rising cost of health care so that we may find viable solutions for those who are underinsured or not insured at all. We need to support a system that empowers patients, allowing them to choose the insurance carrier, types of coverage and/or physicians who will best serve them."
