Bocanegra is running in the 2012 election for California State Assembly District 39. He advanced past the June 5, 2012, blanket primary, defeating Ricardo Benitez (R), Margie Margarita Carranza (R), Omar Cuevas (R), and John Paul Lindblad (G). Bocanegra will face Richard Alarcon (D) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
