Otto taught public school seventh-grade science for five years. A successful businesswoman, Otto left a career as president of a 50-employee business to devote her time to public service.[1]

Otto narrowly won re-election as state auditor in the November 2010 election, defeating Patricia Anderson (R), Annie Young (G), and Kenny Kalligher (Grassroots).[2]
