The Rhode Island Chief of the Division of Agriculture is a position in the Rhode Island state government. The Division of Agriculture falls under the purview of the Rhode Island Director of Environmental Management.

The chief of the division of agriculture within the department of environmental management is established in Section 42-17.1-5 of the Rhode Island general laws.

§ 42-17.1-5:[1]

There shall be a deputy director for environmental quality in the unclassified service and appointed by the governor, and an assistant director for operations, an assistant director for regulation, an assistant director for legal services, and an assistant director for administration, all of whom shall be in the classified service; and a head of each of the divisions of the department, all of whom shall be in the classified service.


The division of agriculture within the department of environmental management is established in Section 42-17.1-4 of the Rhode Island general laws.

A division of agriculture which shall carry out those functions of the department relating to agriculture, and such other functions and duties as may from time to time be assigned by the director, including, but not limited to, plant industry, farm viability, marketing and promotion, farmland ecology and protection, plant and animal health and quarantine, pesticides, mosquito abatement, pest survey and response, food policy and security, and, in collaboration with the department of health, public health as it relates to farm production and direct marketing of farm products, and those agreed upon through memorandum of agreement with the department of health or other state agencies.
