The Rhode Island Legislative Council is the nonpartisan legislative service agency of the Rhode Island General Assembly that handles most research and legal needs for members of the General Assembly and their staffs. All fiscal research is conducted by the respective standing committee staffs in the Rhode Island House of Representatives and Rhode Island State Senate[1].

Bill drafting

Bill drafting and proofing is provided to members of the Rhode Island General Assembly. The staff responsible for bill drafting works with legislators that the bill is matched closely to the legislature's intent[2].

Legal services

The legislative council has attorneys on staff that deal with legal matters of the Rhode Island General Assembly[3].

Research

The Legislative Council performs nonpartisan research on the request of legislators and their staffs. Most research is done on various subjects and also provides assistance to legislators and their staff when dealing with state agencies[4].
