Richard Gottfried (b. May 16, 1947) is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly. He has represented District 75 since 1971. Gottfried's other political experiences include State Committee member for New York State Democratic Committee; deputy majority leader and chair of codes committee for New York State Assembly; and district leader of New York County Democratic Executive Committee.

Gottfried's professional experiences include law clerk and attorney.

Gottfried earned a BA in government from Cornell University and a JD from Columbia Law School. He and his wife, Louise, have one child; Michael.[1]

Gottfried is running in the 2012 election for New York State Assembly District 75. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. He is also running on the Working Families Party ticket. No candidates filed to run in the Republican primary. The general election takes place on November 6, 2012. [2][3]

Gottfried ran unopposed in the September 14 Democratic primary. He defeated Michael Chan (R) in the general election on November 2.[5] In addition to running on the Democratic ticket, he ran on the Working Familes ticket.

On November 4, 2008 Gottfried won re-election to the New York State Assembly, District 75, defeating opponent Saul Farber (R).
