Rick Bertrand (b. December 22, 1969) is a Republican member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 7. He was first elected to the chamber in 2010.

Bertrand served as Minority Whip in 2013.

Biography

Bertrand earned his B.S. in Political Science from the University of Northern Iowa in 1993. His professional experience includes working as President of JAR Imports and TARINI Wines.

Defamation lawsuit

A Woodbury County jury awarded Bertrand $231,000 in damages in a defamation lawsuit over a negative TV ad in the campaign. Bertrand filed the suit in October 2010 against Mullin, claiming he was defamed by an ad paid for by the Iowa Democratic Party that said Bertrand "put profits ahead of children's health." Mullin, who approved the ad, was ordered to pay $31,000 and the Democratic Party $200,000.[3]
