- Election results are from the Fresno County elections office as of 11:30 a.m. PST on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Final results will be posted here when they become available.
Maria Betancourt was a recall organizer. She is the wife of Xavier Betancourt, who is a member of the Parlier Unified School District.
Betancourt and others organized a group called the "Save our Schools Committee" to lead the recall.
Recall supporters objected to a vote by the four targeted board members in March 2011 to place Parlier Unified School District superintendent Rick Rodriguez on paid administrative leave.
Path to the ballot
Recall organizers needed to collect a minimum of 936 signatures for each recall target to force a recall vote.
The signatures were submitted to Fresno County election officials, where they were scrutinized for validity. Fresno County election officials announced in the last week of June 2011 that the petitions contained sufficient valid signatures to trigger a special recall election.
