He is challenged by Lawrence J. Furman (D) and Nicholas Nellegar (D) in the general election which takes place on November 5, 2013.[2][3][4]

On November 8, 2011, Clifton won election to District 12 of the New Jersey General Assembly. Clifton and Ronald Dancer ran unopposed in the Republican Primary on June 7. They then defeated Catherine Tinney Rome and William Spedding in the November 8 general election.
