Laney ran in the 2012 election for New York State Senate District 20. She ran unopposed in the Republican primary on September 13, 2012 and was defeated by incumbent Eric Adams (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [1][2]

Laney was a 2010 Republican candidate for District 19 of the New York State Senate. She ran unopposed in the September 14 Republican primary. Laney was defeated by incumbent John L. Sampson (D) in the general election on November 2.[3] Laney ran as a member of the Republican and Conservative parties.
