Jackowski ran for Vermont Attorney General in 2012. Her chief philosophy on the position was three-pronged:[3]

  • "The Office of Attorney General should never be used as a political tool."
  • "The power of the Office is a Sacred Trust that must insure Justice for All."
  • "The Office of Attorney General should set the ethical standard for Vermont."

She faced incumbent Bill Sorrell (D), Burlington businessman Jack McMullen (R), and Ed Stanak (Progressive) in the general election on November 6, 2012. She was defeated by incumbent Sorrell in the general election.[4][2]

Issues

2012 Campaign themes

Jackowski's campaign platform for the Vermont attorney general's office included the following issues:[5]

  1. "Every case of reported abuse of the disabled or elderly must be investigated in a timely manner - and prosecuted if the facts support prosecution."
  2. "Call a moratorium on the use of Tasers by law enforcement."
  3. "Insure the privacy of all medical records."
  4. "Shut down Vermont Yankee."
  5. "Decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana."
  6. "Increase the Prosecution of violent crime, home invasion, and other offenses which are a threat to public safety."
  7. "Support farmers and the economy by allowing the cultivation of hemp as an agricultural product."[5]
  8. Review the merits of the Public Service Board, whose decisions Jackowski believes impinge on consumer protections.
  9. Make the state more selective in its approach to handing lawsuits to reduce spending of tax dollars. She favors by opting more for fair settlement over "litigating every case." She believes that sovereign immunity and eminent domain should be invoked "only in the extremely rare case when the public good demands it."[5]
  10. Eliminate censorship of political speech in areas funded by public taxes such as public libraries.
  11. Lift or soften policy that restricts the ability of qualified medical professionals without in-state licenses to treat patients in Vermont.[5]
