Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida: In 2008, voters in Arizona, Arkansas, California and Florida decided on four same-sex rights related measures. A new report by the National Institute on Money in State Politics, revealed that a total of $101.1 million was raised on the same-sex rights measures. Despite the nearly even split in contributions in the four states, voters approved measures that restricted or denied same-sex rights.[1]

According to the report, Arizona Proposition 102 (2008), which banned same-sex marriage, supporters raised $7.8 million and opponents raised $823,000. Arkansas Initiative Act 1 prohibited unmarried couples from adopting or providing foster care to minors. Supporters raised approximately $137,000 and opponents raised about $332,000. In California Proposition 8 made same-sex marriage illegal. Supporters raised $40.5 million, while opponents raised $45.6 million.
