There was a Sedona Mayoral Election Question on the March 9 ballot in the city of Sedona which is in both Coconino and Yavapai Counties.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 682 (19.26%)
  • NO 2,859 (80.74%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure asked Sedona residents if they wanted to allow the Mayor to be elected by the council. This issue was also voted on six years ago, with the majority of the vote saying they wanted to elect the mayor and not let the council do it. The city council had been still trying to make it so they would had the control over the mayor election though once this vote occurred, there will not be another one because it is binding meaning the decision will be final. Residents did not understand why there was another need to vote on this, but the council had still tried to take control over the matter.[2]

To add confusion to the issue, voting "Yes" meant one is saying no to having the the Mayor be elected by popular vote and instead have the council do it. The council is split on how much power the people should have in electing officials to office.[3]
