Two Sodus Township Fire & Library Levy Renewal measures were on the August 7, 2012 ballot in the township of Sodus, which is in Berrien County.

Both measures were approved

The first measure sought to renew the current fire levy which is set at a rate of $.80 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for fire protection services in the township.

The second measure sought to renew the current library levy which is set at a rate of $.40 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for library operational in the township.[1]

The question on the ballot:

Proposition I: Shall the previously expired voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section 6, of the Michigan Constitution in Sodus Township, of .8 mills ($.80 per $1,000 of taxable value on real property), reduced by the required millage rollbacks, be increased and renewed at .8 mills ($.80 per $1,000 of taxable value on real property) and levied on real property for a period of four years, 2012 through 2015 inclusive, for the purpose of funding fire protection services and related equipment, property and apparatus and shall the Township levy such millage? It is estimated the revenue collected by Sodus Township as a result of this proposal will be $52,746.00 in the first year the millage is levied based on the most recent taxable value.

Proposition II: Shall the previously expired voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section 6, of the Michigan Constitution in Sodus Township, of .4 mills ($.40 per $1,000 of taxable value on real property), reduced by the required millage rollbacks, be increased and renewed at .4 mills ($.40 per $1,000 of taxable value on real property) and levied on real property for a period of four years, 2012 through 2015 inclusive, for the purpose of providing operating funds for the Sodus Township library and shall the Township levy such millage? It is estimated the revenue collected by Sodus Township as a result of this proposal will be $26,373.00 in the first year the millage is levied based on the most recent taxable value.[3]
