Primary challenges

Only 5 incumbents faced competition in the June 8 primary. Five incumbents lost to their challengers. All of the five incumbents who were defeated in the primary were Republicans: Harry Cato, Keith Kelly , Joey Millwood, James Stewart, Jr. and Richard Chalk, Jr. lost to challengers Tom Corbin, Bill Chumley, Doug Brannon, William Taylor, and Andy Patrick, respectively.
