South Carolina Legislative Audit Council Director
The audit council director is appointed by board members and serves four-year terms. The board consists of five public members and four legislative members. The Legislative Audit Council is comprised of both the director and the board, which serves as the oversight agency for the South Carolina General Assembly. The council is responsible for performing independent, objective performance audits of state operations.
Previously, Schroeder served as director for 33 years. He was first appointed in 1975 and served nine terms when he retired in 2009.
