St. David School Superintendent Mark Goodman said, “Our community approved the budget override in 2004 in an effort to retain our highly qualified staff by addressing the inadequate salaries and making them more competitive with those within our county. We also wanted to maintain small class sizes and the programs we consider important as a community. Since 2008 we have seen a decrease in state per student funding, dropping from $4,920 to $3,958 in 2013. This is approximately a 20-percent decrease. Schools continue to face ever-shrinking budgets with increasing accountability and responsibilities. If the voters pass this override, it will help maintain our current educational programs and highly qualified staff in St. David. The proposed budget override is not a tax increase rather it maintains our current level."
