Steve Lathrop (b. April 1, 1957) is a member of the Nebraska Unicameral, representing District 12. He was first elected to the chamber in 2006. In the 2013-2014 session, Lathrop serves on the Executive Board.

Biography

Lathrop earned his bachelor's and J.D. degrees from Creighton University in 1979 and 1981, respectively.

Lathrop is reportedly considering a bid for U.S. Senate in the 2014 elections. Freshman Senator Mike Johanns plans to vacate his seat upon completion of his current term, leaving both seats open.[2][3][4]

Before Johanns announced he would not seek re-election in 2014, Lathrop was already discussing a run for Congress. "People have talked about that. I’ve had some people talk to me about it," he said in Nov. 2012.[5]

Lathrop was considering a bid for Governor of Nebraska but announced on August 9, 2013 that he would not be seeking the gubernatorial position. Gov. Dave Heineman is term-limited from running for re-election in 2014.[6]

On November 2, 2010, Lathrop was re-elected to the 12th District Seat in the Nebraska Senate. Lanthrop ran unopposed in the general election.[7]
