Waterworth lost to incumbent Aaron Schock in the general election.[2] Waterworth ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to representIllinois' 18th District. Waterworth ran on the Democratic ticket. [3] The signature filing deadline was December 27, 2011, with the primary taking place on March 20, 2012. Incumbent Aaron Schock sought re-election on the Republican ticket.

Waterworth defeated Matt Woodmancy in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012.[1] Incumbent Aaron Schock ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Schock then defeated Waterworth in the general election on November 6, 2012.
