Steven S. Choi is the current Mayor of Irvine, California. He was first elected to the position in 2012.

Choi was a member of the Irvine City Council from 2004 to 2012 and served as a Trustee of the Irvine Unified School District from 1998 to 2004.


Choi earned his B.A. from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea, his M.A. in Library Science from Louisiana State University and his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. His professional experience includes working as a Peace Corps language instructor, college professor and operating Kumon Math and Reading Centers.[1]

Choi ran in the 2010 election for California State Assembly District 70. Choi was defeated by Donald P. Wagner in the Republican primary election on June 8, 2010.[2][3]


Choi and his wife, Janie, have two children: Daniel and Michelle.
