Sue Wilson Beffort represents legislative district 19 in the New Mexico Senate. Her district includes part of the East Albuquerque foothills, as well as several small communities both West and East of the Sandia Mountains in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Torrance Counties.[1] Mrs. Beffort makes her living as an employment consultant.[2]

Beffort joined the New Mexico State Senate in 1997. She has served in that position since, representing the 19th district.

Transparency advocacy

During the 2008 legislative session, Beffort introduced Senate Bill 132, called the Whistleblower Protection Act. The bill was designed to protect public employees against retaliation from their employers when employees objected to or refused to participate in activities "that the public employee believed in good faith is an unlawful or improper act."
