Suzanne Chun Oakland (b. June 27, 1961) is a Democratic member of the Hawaii State Senate, representing District 13. She was first elected to the chamber in 1996. She served as Senate Majority Whip from 2011 to 2013.

Oakland served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1990 to 1996.

Biography

Oakland earned her B.A. in Communications/Psychology from the University of Hawaii in 1983. Her professional experience includes working as a Community Services Specialist for the Hawaii State Senate in 1984, working as Administrative Assistant for Smolenski and Woodell, Attorneys at Law, from 1984 to 1986, working as Administrative Assistant for Au's Plumbing and Metal Works from 1979 to 1990, and working as a Research Assistant and Office Manager for City Council Member Gary Gill from 1987 to 1990.

Oakland won re-election in the 2012 election for Hawaii State Senate District 13. Oakland ran unopposed in the August 11 Democratic primary and ran unopposed in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [1][2]

Oakland ran for re-election to the 13th District Seat in 2010. She had no primary opposition in the September 18 primary. Oakland defeated Judy Franklin (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3]

On November 7, 2006, Oakland won re-election to the Hawaii State Senate from Hawaii's 13th Senate District. Oakland received 10,092 votes in the election, defeating Paul Smith, who received 3,116 votes. Additionally, 601 "Blank" votes and 2 "Over" votes were cast in the election.[4] Oakland raised $58,646 for her campaign; Smith raised $60,434.[5]
