T. W. Shannon (b. February 24, 1978) is a Republican member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, representing District 62. He was first elected to the chamber in 2006. He currently serves as Speaker of the House.

Shannon is running for U.S. Senate in the special election for the seat left vacant by the retirement of Tom Coburn (R).[1][2]

Biography

Shannon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Cameron University and a law degree from Oklahoma City University. His professional experience includes working as a self-employed consultant.

He is a Republican U.S. Senate candidate for the 2014 special election. Shannon formed an exploratory committee in January 2014 and officially announced his candidacy on January 29, 2014.[2][1]

In a statement announcing his candidacy, Shannon said that as speaker he has worked to “show the rest of the country what kind of prosperity could come from conservative policies.”[1]

“The American people are tired, and they want someone who will fight to protect their values,” Shannon added.[1]

Shannon ran in the 2012 election for Oklahoma House District 62. Shannon ran unopposed in the Republican primary on June 26 and was unchallenged in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[3][4]

Shannon ran for re-election to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He was unopposed in the Republican primary. He also ran unopposed in the general election on November 2, 2010. Vote totals were not reported for unopposed candidates.
