Tanya Cook (b. November 9, 1964) is a member of the Nebraska Unicameral, representing District 13 since 2009.

Born in Guam on November 9, 1964, Cook is a graduate of Georgetown University, and has a M.A. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Her career prior to her election was in the Nebraska executive branch, serving as the Director of Urban Affairs in the Governor's office. Her experience outside of Nebraska includes serving in the administration of former New York City Mayor David Dinkins. [1]

Cook earned her bachelor's degree in international business from Georgetown University in 1986, and her M.A. in training and development in 1994 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Cook has additional professional experience within the NW Ayer Advertising Agency, and as president of City Girl Communications.

Cook has additional political experience on the staff of Ben Nelson, the staff of Brenda Council during her runs for city council and mayor, on the Wells Fargo Bank Community Advisory Board, and on the Governor's Omaha Advisory Council for Lead Safe.

Tanya Cook is involved with a number of organizations, including the American Council of Young Political Leaders, Florence Kiwanis, Girls Incorporated Board, Leadership Omaha Alumni Association, Neighborhoods, North Omaha Commercial Club, and the Omaha Public Library Foundation Board.

Tanya Cook currently serves on one non-legislative committee, the Commission for the Protection of Children.

Cook won re-election in the 2012 election for Nebraska State Senate District 13. Cook ran unopposed in the May 15 primary election and defeated Timothy Ashford in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
