Abed won election in the 2012 election for Michigan House of Representatives District 71. She defeated Andrea Cascarilla and Douglas C. Drake in the August 7 Democratic primary and defeated incumbent Deb Shaughnessy (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]

Abed was a Democratic candidate for the District 71 House seat in 2010. She defeated Mark Eagle, Fred Fry, Justin Heany and Bob Robinson in the August 3 Democratic primary. She was defeated by Deb Shaughnessy (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.
