Thomas Courtney is a Democratic member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 44 since 2003 and serving as Senate Majority Whip since 2006. Courtney was a member of the Burlington School Board.

Courtney served in the United States Air Force. He has also worked for Case/New Holland Company. He is now retired.

Courtney ran for re-election to Iowa State Senate District 44 in 2012. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012 and defeated Brad Bourn in the general election on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
