Thomas Courtney is a Democratic member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 44. Courtney was a member of the Burlington School Board. He joined the Iowa State Senate in 2003 and has served in that position since. He has been Senate Majority Whip since 2006.

Courtney served in the United States Air Force. He has also worked for Case/New Holland Company. He is now retired.
