Thomas Duane (b. January 30, 1955) is a former Democratic member of the New York State Senate, representing District 29 from 1999 to 2013. Duane was the Democratic District Leader for the New York County Democratic Party from 1982 to 1987. He was also a member of the New York City Council from 1991 to 1998.

Duane was Senior Vice President/Broker of James J. Duane and Company Investment Bankers 1982 to 1989.

He then worked as Manhattan Liaison for the New York City Comptroller from 1990 to 1991. Duane earned his BA in Urban Studies/American Studies from Lehigh University in 1977.

Duane announced on June 3, 2012 that he would not be seeking re-election to the New York State Senate. He cited the travel between his home and Albany as one reason for his departure from office. Duane also added that he has no future plans to run for public office or become a lobbyist.[1]


Duane was unopposed in the September 14 Democratic primary. He defeated Joseph Mendola (R) in the general election.[2] He is running as a member of the Democratic and Working Families parties.
