Begalka worked his way from manager to owner of Sodak Gardens. Politically, he has been active with the Deuel County Republican Party, serving as a delegate, secretary, and chair. He first took office as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives in 2001 and served until 2004.
Begalka earned his B.S. from South Dakota State University. He and his wife Rhonda currently reside in Clear Lake. They have five children, Aaron, Carrie, Austin, Ronald, and Robert.
